About Coastal Shading Studio
A studio built around light.
Coastal Shading Studio is the Lowcountry’s premier Architectural Shading & Daylight Design Studio, combining refined design, precision craftsmanship and the latest smart-home technology to bring comfort, wellness and beauty to every space we shape.
The South Carolina Lowcountry
Connect with UsLight deserves the same care, craftsmanship and design attention as any other element of a home’s architecture. Too often it is treated as an afterthought — added at the end, rather than designed in from the start.
We do things differently. Shading enters our conversations while the walls are still drawings — early enough to be built in rather than worked around.
Rooted in the Lowcountry
We design for a particular quality of light.
As a local, family-owned studio rooted in the coastal Lowcountry lifestyle, we’ve spent years learning how light moves through this region’s homes: the glare off the marsh in late afternoon, the deep golden hour through a great room’s wall of windows, the need for total calm in a primary suite after a long day at the beach.
Low latitude, long water views and wide south-facing glass make this a demanding place to get shading right. The sun sits low across the marsh for hours, not minutes. Reflected light comes up off the water as well as down from the sky. A fabric that behaves beautifully inland can wash out a room here by four o’clock. That understanding of light shapes every design we create.
What drives us
The principles behind every space we design.
These are the values that guide every project, every recommendation, and every relationship we build along the way.
Craftsmanship
We treat light as a design detail worth getting right — never an afterthought, never off-the-rack.
Honesty
We recommend what genuinely fits your home and budget, not just what’s easiest or most profitable.
Reliability
We show up on time, communicate clearly, and stand behind every system we design and install.
Local roots
We’re your Bluffton neighbors, and we build lasting relationships within the community we proudly call home.
Innovation
We stay current on smart-home technology and design trends, so every space we shape performs.
Begin
Let’s design the light around the way you live.
Whether you’re building a new home, renovating an existing space, or integrating shading into a larger interior vision, we’d love to be part of the conversation.
